Long Shelf Life Coffee

Finally, long-term storage coffee that tastes great. In fact, this is the best-tasting coffee you will ever have. After roasting your first batch of raw coffee beans at home, you will never want to drink store-bought coffee again.

Home Roasting Directions

  1. Preheat Whirley Pop pan over a medium flame
  2. Add 1lb or less raw coffee beans to the pan
  3. Stir vigorously in both directions and shake occasionally - never stop stirring and shaking throughout the entire roast
  4. When you hear a crackling sound you have reached first crack (light roast)
  5. If you achieved first crack in less than 7 minutes turn the heat down a little - you want to extend the total roasting time to over 10 minutes but less than 15 minutes
  6. Start looking in the pan and listening carefully
  7. If you continue roasting there will be a second crack (dark roast) - second crack is not as loud as first crack
  8. Never roast too long after second crack or the coffee will burn
  9. Immediately pour the beans onto flat pans to cool quickly
  10. Shake the pans and blow off the chaff (light flaky outer layer)
  11. Once cool, the beans can be placed in a container
  12. Ideal grinding and brewing time is 12 hours after the roast

Coast Rica - Obata Honey

Alberto Guardia began growing coffee at Hacienda Sonora in the 1970s. The farm sits at the foot of the active Poás Volcano in Costa Rica’s Central Valley. Sonora has a well-earned reputation for producing quality micro-lots featuring specific varietal and processing separation. This honey-processed lot is made up entirely of the Obata variety, a cross between Villa Sarchi and Timor coffee varieties.
